Everyone has experienced self-hypnosis frequently! Yes, when you hear a shocking story and open your eyes wide, you create an alpha moment that puts your brain temporarily into hypnosis while you process what you just heard so that you remember it forever. The same can be said of sight, taste, smell, touch and feeling. Since we all get emotional on a daily basis, it is impossible not to hypnotize yourself. Perhaps you have had the experience of driving several miles while thinking inwardly and following your visions, unaware of the road, but easily pulled back to consciousness when something unexpected occurs. This is just one more way you can drift into hypnosis.
Having a private session with a hypnotherapist, is simply a way of learning how to see yourself in a new light. Your conscious mind simply allows the subconscious and deep-subconscious selves to mingle and share without judgment. Yes, your conscious mind is both a judge and jury, while your deep-subconscious is the real you, waiting to give you a truthful message of insight which shoves all your subconscious negative memories over to the side. When that happens those negative ideas are no longer important. In other words, you change your mind! Yes, you can change your mind in the blink of an eye! So, under hypnosis you can accept true suggestions that help you stay positive and active.
Many people believe that hypnosis will place them in a mind altering state where they are out of control. Most people watch hypnotic subjects in stage shows, who are pulling their rubber noses or seeing with x-ray vision or even who think they are famous performers, singing and dancing without inhibition. Well, actually, they are aware and know what they are doing. They simply want to demonstrate their physicality and get that well earned attention. It is usually a very amusing experience for the subjects as well as the audience.
There are generally three categories that most people fit into. The first is the extremely physical type who will watch themselves from within and will readily allow a therapist to hypnotize them, as long as they are able to observe their own progress. These people are easily swayed to change their point of view once they understand what it is they want to change in their attitude. Sometimes the physical type is so full of negative emotions, that it takes awhile for them to accept that they can surrender in hypnosis to help themselves, but once they enjoy the first session, they are ready to come back for more, and, over time, a great deal of negativity and self-doubt can be dumped and replaced with confidence following gentle positive suggestions.
The second type is the Intellectual. These will enquire about what is to occur and will ,when completely satisfied that they understand, enter a state of hypnosis where they readily follow positive suggestions that are suitable for them. Surprisingly, many intellectual types easily and readily move away from the surface issues that bother them and on to the core issuesthat are the root of the problem.. Their biggest challenge usually deals with letting go of guilt and fear of change
The third type is known as the ’somnambulist’. This type of person is both intellectual and physically emotional. Their mind is easily relaxed into a sleeping mode, and so it is important to address this issue, by not taking them into any deep hypnosis. Everything they do while wide awake is often in a conscious state of hypnosis and so, being asked to relax and follow suggestions to relax, must be on a superficial level. Being aware and conscious of the hypnotherapist is a must for these types.
